Common Questions
A few of the questions we hear most often.
What is a fiduciary?
A fiduciary is someone who is legally obligated to act in the client's best interest. This means we do better when you do better. This means we need to do what is in our client's best interest, whether we get paid or not.
How are you paid?
We believe in transparency in how we are paid; see How We Help for details.
Why do you talk about values and emotions around money?
We believe that financial decisions are rarely from just numbers. They are shaped by personal experience. We are not financial therapists or financial coaches, we are simply bringing an informed understanding of how client's interact with money. This helps us to understand how best to direct the financial pieces in your life.
How long does the process take?
We ask for a financial plan to be completed within 30 days. After such time, we will continue to work together on the outlined steps in your plan. Those steps will be unique to each client.
What should I bring to the first meeting?
Any specific documents related to your questions. We ask for spouses to be in meetings together. Beyond that, bring whoever you like. This could include attorneys, accountants, therapists or friends.
What should I expect in our first meeting?
We will see if we're a fit for each other. You should expect us to spend most of the meeting listening to your situation and asking some questions to clarify. If we all decide to work together, then we'll outline the next steps.
What happens after the initial plan is complete?
A plan is only as good as ink without implementation. Our planning fees include a number of services that will be executed within 12 months of the initial engagement. After the 12 month period, you can choose to renew your financial plan to reflect any updates. We recommend a revisit to your financial plan every year or two at minimum.
What services are included in asset management?
Ongoing advice and monitoring, specific tax aware investment strategies, portfolio reviews annually (at the very least), cash flow management, and specific services to the client case. All assets will be managed in light of your financial plan as that will be our "source" code.
What is the minimum account value to be able to work with you?
$250,000 in one account is our minimum. Please contact us with questions.
Can you help me decide if I have enough money to retire or at least slow down?
Yes, our planning process is specifically designed with you in mind. We will help you with the process of deciding what is enough to you and any trade offs needed.
“You have power over your mind- not outside events.”
